Overview:
The Production Control group coordinates the approval, implementation, processing, scheduling, and distribution of production processes within the data center. Utilizing technlogies such as CA-7, CA-11, CA-DISPATCH, TSO/ISPF, CA-1, INFOPRINT, and VPS, production workload is scheduled based on priority. We encourage user discipline through the enforcement of strict processing guidelines and the enforcement of established change management procedures.

Quality Control:
We serve as the Quality Control Center for reports and data produced by the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston user community. Our group is responsible for monitoring all DATA CONTROL functions to insure that daily production requirements are met and that the user and programmer requests are valid and conform to the established guidelines and regulations. Reports must be processed, and distributed according to job specifications. The control department is responsible for the archival of Dental Branch audit files and the distribution of financial and payroll reporting information to students, faculty, and staff of the University.

User Community:
The departments that Production Control interface with and support are: Programming/MSS, Auditing, Accounting, Payroll & Benefits, SIS, the Dental Branch, PBS, FMS, HRMS, Printing Services, Telecommunications, Budgeting, Purchasing, Auxiliary Services, Registrar/Cashier, Compliance, Financial Aid, Internal Affairs, GSBS, Legal Affairs, Risk Management, Capital Assets, Occupational Safety, the School of Public Health, GSBS, the Nursing School, MSRDP, Academic Affairs, Graphic Communications, Systems Support, Operations, Network Operations, CSS, and DSS.

Support:
The Control Team is heavily involved in resolving problems for both the programming and the user community. In addition to resolving problems, they serve as a technical support contact, where users have their questions answered or researched and resolved.

Production Control interacts closely with Data Operations in implementing new technologies and other methodologies which support the University’s Mission on controlling operating expenses and streamlining operations. This may involve consulting reference guides, contacting coordinators of projects or communicating with vendors. Production Control also provides 24 X 7 technical and clerical assistance to the Data Center Operations department.

Data Tracking:
Control maintains a method of tracking data that is used to adequately answer user and programmer inquiries regarding the status of projects and reports as well as the archival and retention of University data. In addition, we provide data security for the Tape Library, maintain Dispatch, CA7 / CA11, and coordinate the distribution of all fiche and printed output. Each staff member trains to assume any responsibility that must be handled on a daily basis in the event other members are absent.

These are the Control functions and services provided daily to help ensure the integrity of production at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Each worker is a specialist in administering several products utilized by the University, yet each also doubles as a clerk to perform necessary daily clerical functions.
