INFORMATION SERVICES MISSION

The mission of Information Services is to support institutional goals by planning, developing, delivering and supporting reliable, timely and cost-effective systems and services; to gather and process information throughout the institution and to provide easy access to that information in a secure environment.

The Information Services Division, within General Administration of the University of Texas, Health Science Center, Houston, in its continuous assessment of and awareness in servicing the needs of the academic and administrative components of the University seeks to:

  1. Comply with any and all local and federal laws and statutes affecting data acquisition and transport.
  2. Improve the cost effectiveness of information delivery.
  3. Improve telecommunications (voice and data) transport and delivery.
  4. Make information/data readily available and usable.
  5. Provide reliable, secure hardware, software and data.
  6. Promote professional career development of information services staff.
  7. Evaluate and apply new technology effectively.

INFORMATION SERVICES GOALS

  1. Promote effective management within Information Services.
  2. Exercise fiduciary responsibility in the operation of the division of Information Services.
  3. Ensure compliance with state regulations regarding the provision of information services to state agencies.
  4. Promote professionalism, quality and teamwork within Information Services.
  5. Promote the application of new and existing technologies to HSC General Administration departments consistent with the requirements and expectations of HSC management.

INFORMATION SERVICES AVP RESPONSIBILITIES

The Office of the Assistant Vice President, Information Services provides management oversight for all departments within Information Services including MSS, Data Processing, Telecommunications, Network Services, Records Retention and HCPC MIS. Management oversight includes budgeting and financial management, policy setting, strategic, operational and capital planning, inter and intra departmental coordination and effectiveness monitoring. The Office of Information Services oversees a budget of $8.5 million and an organization of more than 100 professionals. Information Services is staffed by the Assistant Vice President, Executive Secretary, the Supervisor of Management Accounts, and an Administrative Secretary.

To identify and document an administrative computing strategy for UT-Houston
